Side Project Needs A Name (Help!)

Tim and Pack

We need your help.  And by we, I mean Patrick and Tim. We have moved to Kansas City and are going to be giving a lot more time to the music thing.  Along with MR we’ll be doing a side project where we record and release a new song every Monday (hence our new domain newmusicmonday.com.)  What we need now is a name for our side project.  Here’s a few possibilities that we’ve come up with.  Ideally we want something that is simple, memorable, and possibly visual.

We’d also love it if you left a comment below as to what you like about the name you chose.  If you have a good alternative name post that as well.  We’d really appreciate any help you can give us.

Use the little player for a sample of some ROUGH recordings Pack has done to get a feel for our sound. NOTE: These weren’t intended for public consumption and are really just sketches…  Please vote just once. Thanks!

  1. Leave your comments here folks!

  2. I love the bits I heard. Creative writing and original sound that I would actually listen to. As for the name, a few other ideas…juxtaposed, parallel universe (get the pun, with the word verse?). Sure do miss you guys!

  3. cool stuff. i love the rough uncut sound. for a name The SIdewalk Project or Sidewalk Monday are my favorites from the list. To tie in with MR you could go with Moving Mondays. I hate Mondays and wish I had enough faith to move the to Friday:)

  4. I love sidetracked monday. I think it ties in the newmusicmonday concept and the “side project” AND the way you guys…um…operate. It seems very true to who you are and how the side project has been/is being birthed.

  5. How bout Project Monday…sounds a little like Project Runway only instead of weekly fashion design challenges, it’s weekly music writing challenges…I don’t know. I’m a girl.

  6. i move to call it “melisma.”
    who’s playing banjo? i wish i played banjo…

  7. hey guys – i really like sidetracked. couple of reasons 1.i like the one word approach easy to remember 2. imo music can be measured by its ability to sidetrack me. hope things are going well in KC

  8. Thanks for the suggestions all! Tiff- I’m pretty sure you’re not the only one that likes Project Runway ;) Will- Melisma is a great word. Had to wikipedia it

  9. I’m voting for Sidetrack Monday. :-) I like the play with Side (off side, to the side, off center, etc.) and track (music track, track that you can journey, etc.) Adding Monday into the mix makes it a little more memorable, IMHO. Also, how often are we all a little sidetracked on Monday?! Just makes a nice connection. Looking forward to hearing more! ~Dee Anne

  10. I like Sidetrack Monday, I’m often feeling sidetracked on Mondays, so that name rings truth with me!

  11. Updated the poll to show Sidetrack(ed) Monday. Sidetrack Monday seems the more popular choice as opposed to Sidetracked Monday.

  12. Definitely Sidetrack(ed) Monday. Either version would suit you guys, but I like the sound of the past tense one a little better.

Crazy, only half serious, suggestion: Moving Badlands. It’s where you go when you get sidetracked from Mount Rushmore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Dakota#National_Parks_and_Monuments). *groan*

  13. Zing! 2 points = Kyle Gach

  14. super lame and cliche, but I can’t stop thinking about “Case of the Mondays” ~ you can definitely do some fun visuals with it. Otherwise, I like just “Sidetracked”

    Looking forward to the launch!

  15. I like “Parallel Universe” & would throw “Tangent” into the ring as a possibility…miss you guys!

  16. Hey guys,
We miss you around here. I haven’t been in the loop with you much so it was hard for me to really know where the sidewalk/sidetrack names are coming from. Thus, they sounded a little mysterious or more on the negative side of things. For example, being sidetracked versus being focused. What do you think about the name “Tim and Patrick?” It speaks to who you are as two great, personal and friendly guys. I look forward to seeing what happens here!

  17. How fun. Loving the feedback. Thanks for voting guys!

  18. Interludes!

  19. While the names on there are good I like something more abstract and along the lines of “Reflected Sounds”. Which recording wise are the sound waves that reach the listener or audience after being reflected from one or more surfaces (walls, ceilings, floors, etc.) Which is kind of what you’re doing…reflecting different sounds on Mondays to see what you want to put out for your audience as a whole. Hope you guys are well. I’m working on getting you a gig here at UTA…they’d pay for you to come if all goes well! :)

  20. Sidetracked Monday seems the most like a “band” name. However, I like Sidewalks (maybe even without an “s”). It’s simple, easy visual. BTW…I LOVE the new sound. My favorite stuff yet from you guys!! Way to go! Miss you all (Malia still asks about T&M&S.)

  21. I liked the moving mondays idea but still think interludes are my favorite. Maybe moving interludes. The word interludes gives it for me such a more classical yet somewhat yet to be defined idea of a side project. They were originally used in ancient Greek plays as short morality plays to fill space in between the major acts.

  22. moving molehills? moving over? rushless?
like action verb in band names.
what ever you are should work well on tshirts, marquees and bill boards. great sound..easy to listen, great blend…
